Page 1. Getting There: Roatan on a Budget

Honduras is a Caribbean destination popular with outdoor explorers.  High Season is from December until February. To get the best deals, visit in the spring or fall.

If you haven’t already done this- get some flight alerts through sites like kayak, onetravel, priceline, and expedia. You can get weekly updates on the price of the flight and some, like Kayak, will tell you when it is a good time to buy.

Also, remember, Honduras has four airports. Since the flights to Roatan are priciest if direct, I am going to skip informing you about Juan Manuel Galvez International Airport (RBT) and give you some importnat details that can help you get to Roatan cheap from the other three!

The three other airports are; Ramon Villeda Morales International Airport (SPS) in San Pedro Sula,  Toncontin International Airport (TGU) in Tegucigalpa, and Golosón International Airport in La Ceiba (LCE)

The best option for the price is SPS/ San Pedro Sula.

If you have limited time, you will want to fly in and out of Roatan, but how you book your flights can make the world of difference in the price tag.  Instead of purchasing directly to the Roatan try flying to one of the other airports.

I used Kayak, but you can also see how other flight sites, check here.

I am flying from IAH to Ramon Villeda Morales Airport (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) to Roatan. I checked prices from Austin, Dallas & San Antonio. IAH was the cheapest because it has a direct flight with United. American Airlines flies direct out of Dallas or Miami, Delta Airlines out of Atlanta. Most West Coast airports will send you via Houston, or you can take advantage of the Avianca Airlines hub of San Salvador airport (in El Salvador).
