Skin Deep

I’m sure you’ve heard before that “beauty is only skin deep.” I wholeheartedly agree, but I also don’t think there’s anything wrong with wanting to feel beautiful. Why shouldn’t we feel beautiful on the inside and the outside?

If you follow this blog or know it’s authors, you know that both Ana Maria and I value physical and mental health. Wellness, in general, is a consistent theme throughout our blog. How can we truly love life if we are unwell?

What we haven’t discussed, up to this point, is how “looking good to feel good” fits in to this whole health and wellness thing.

I thought long and hard about why I was hesitant to talk about wanting to “look good” or have good skin or be pretty. Here’s what I came up with:

Generations before us had to work so hard to prove that women are deserving of strength and independence that they pushed all ideas of being pretty or beautiful aside. I speak for both of our mothers when I say that they work their asses off for us. They wanted to show us, through word and deed, that being beautiful is, in part, being strong and being able to weather the storm that life inevitably throws your way.

They are also two of the prettiest women I know.

Nothing is wrong with wanting to be pretty and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. It doesn’t make you any less strong. It doesn’t make you weak or a “bimbo.” If you believe that then you’re giving power to those who want to hold you back and make you weak.

Having recently been through a pregnancy and currently in the middle of a teething baby phase, I’ve had plenty of moments where I felt less than pretty. However, I’ve gotten up most days, put in “real clothes” and made myself generally presentable. It has made me feel like I am being successful even if I’m faltering at every turn and questioning my judgment. At least I can FEEL PRETTY for the day!

I’m telling you this because I want to give you a tool. A tool that I discovered recently and has quite literally change my world. It’s the tool of quality skin care. It’s the tool of using the number one skincare brand in the United States. It’s the tool of The best skin of your life.

Maybe you’ve heard of Rodan + Fields. They are the dermatologist behind Proactiv. Their latest creations are skin care regimens for all, literally all, skin types. This skin care doesn’t just mask what we don’t want to see. It works at a cellular level to change our skin and to make it healthy.

Since I don’t like to wear a lot of make up or have the luxury of time to put on a lot of make up, this was a blessing to discover. I also added some of their enhancements that work as fake-up (no makeup but you think I have some on!). Check out my results from Lash Boost.

So there you have it! Try it & you’ll like it. After eight weeks you’ll wake up like Maria in West Side Story singing a splendiferous rendition of “I feel pretty” as you wipe spit up milk off your entire left shoulder. Or maybe that’s just me 🙂
